Stories of Kindness from Around the World

World Kindness Week Day 1: Sweet Treats

--by sonrisa, posted Nov 13, 2012

To celebrate Diwali and Day 1 of World Kindness Week, my nearly 2-year-old daughter and I set out to do some acts of kindness this afternoon. So many times when we set out with this intention, it's funny how we're the ones who are surprised to be on the receiving end of someone's generosity and this is exactly what happened today.

Before her weekly Monkey Music class, I popped into a local bakery to pick up a sweet treat for our family for Diwali this evening and spontaneously decided to pick one up for her music teacher as well, to share our gratitude. While I was looking around at all the yummy treats, the person at the counter came around and called my daughter over -- she then handed her an enormous freshly baked chocolate chip cookie totally out of the blue! These things don't happen often in London at all, so I was totally blown away!

We then gifted the treat to her teacher, who was very grateful, and also decided to pay-forward a little monkey toy to someone in another class, so we gave her teacher the money and attached a smile card to the monkey -- she was excited about gifting it to someone and couldn't believe somebody would do something like this! It's fun to involve others in acts of kindness, to share the giddiness you get from the experience and the warmth that fills up your heart :) #worldkindnessweek
