Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Helping The Opera Volunteers

--by lindariebel, posted Feb 7, 2016

Today as I was in the lobby waiting to be admitted to an opera performance, I noticed that there was no jar or box to receive money left at the "Honor Bar" for cookies and coffee. I told this to a volunteer, and he ran off to get a box. Then when I poured my coffee, I noticed that it was impossible to remove the cup without making the dispenser run coffee all over the table. "The coffeepot needs to be above the table," I said. "Let's use that little box over there." I helped him reposition the coffeepot so people could use it, then repeated the operation with the second pot. Finally someone asked for cream, since the cream jar was empty, and I located the store-bought cream container and brought it over. We had a nice conversation about favorite operas. All told, they weren't prepared but it was a pleasure to help.
