Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Forgiveness At Standing Rock

--by RoseMarie, posted Dec 8, 2016

I'm really touched by the story of forgiveness at Standing Rock. Hundreds of veterans ask the native elders for forgiveness. I'm sure you're all familiar with the dialogue; the veterans talking about treaties  being signed but then broken; faces of presidents blasted on the sacred mountains, minerals being stolen from the land.

The elder touches the representative's head and truly shows grace. He then says the native Americans do not own the land the land owns them. The elder then says what his people want, 'World peace'. Now I've heard many a contestant for Miss World proclaim they want world peace but none with such humility, desire and compassion as the native American elder.  The desire for peace really is in  his heart.

I have great respect for the way the native Americans have displayed grace in the midst of this ongoing saga; I hope it really is the end of their battle and Mr Trump does not attempt to overturn the rerouting of the pipelines.

Respect for others, the native Americans have set a high benchmark for the rest of us. X
