A young guy asked me for sixty cents outside of Subways today. At first I told him no because I knew that I didn't have lose change. Then I remembered that I had five dollars. I gave the money to my 11 year old son and told him to run back and give the guy the money as I continued to walk to the car. Usually when I have given people on the street food or money I do it personally which tends to make me feel good when the person expresses their thankfulness for my help. This time I purposefully walked away and gave my son the opportunity to feel what it is like to give. My son came back with a huge grin and told me how the guy told him "thank you" and "blessings" to him. I learned that anonymous giving can be just as powerful as being there in the moment and I also feel I helped my son to feel what it's like to help someone.
