I went for a drive tonight, intending to gift some strawberry-rhubarb pie to baristas at a local Starbucks. Much to my (happy) surprise, I could not find a SB open :). But, there was a truck making a delivery to one, so I placed a piece of pie with a smile card on the step leading up to his door.
Then, on my way home, I stopped at a 7-11, ran in with another piece and told the clerk I was just making a delivery, as I left the pie and a smile card at the counter.
When I left, I wondered what I would do if someone did that to me. Would I be suspicious? Would I eat it or toss it out? In the end, it doesn't matter. The best I can hope for is that the smile cards are read and each recipient remembers this one small moment as they move forward in life.
