Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Run Fast Run Fast, Elise ...

--by mindyjourney, posted Oct 11, 2015

run fast run fast,
elise squeals over her shoulder.

the weight of my years
bounce and jiggle
as i follow the Light
of her 2 1/2 year old
skipping wiggle.

in the aspen grove
our bare feet turn gold
beneath our toes,
as october tickles
the remaining
leaves still clinging.

we laugh
with their setting-sun-song;
delighting in nature's belong.

we scoop up handfuls
of leaves
and help in their re-release.

yay! yay! yay!
our voices meld
with the whooshing lyrics
of a seasonal change.

elise drops to the cool
treasured ground
and says, sit sit sit,
so i do,
relieved of an excusable admit.

we marvel in touch
each leaf within reach
plus start a stack of twigs.
almost overlooked,
their skeletal strength
are branched and boned
with a smoothed knobbed length.

what moment defines a life
i no longer wonder,
for i found it breathing gold
in autumn's splendid aspen grove.
