Little Action, Big Effects

A friend, who started up and ran her own youth theater group, lost her husband to cancer 2 years ago. Almost immediately after he died, she found out that she had cancer too. She is still going strong and her treatment is working well for now. She always has a smile and kind words for everyone. One of the hobbies I have had over the years is to take photographs, particularly candid shots of people laughing and smiling. I have a great headshot of my friend and her husband, from about a year or 2 before he died. They both have the loveliest smiles in the photo. I ordered an enlargement of it andpopped it into a nice frame for her. I gave it to her last night at a meeting of the theater group. A Change of Plans

We moved house 9 months ago. Before that we had lived in the same house for 20 years. Our next door neighbours had lived in their house even longer, so we have known them for the full 20 years. They are a lovely retired couple, Bob and Jean, a lot older than us. Truly good friends.

Bob has just gone into hospital having suffered a serious stroke and is not expected to live. We cancelled our plans and took a 2 hour round trip to visit him on Sunday in hospital.

I don't know if he could hear us, but we sang some happy songs and told him all our news. Until, that is, we couldn't hold back the tears and then we hugged and cried together, including Jean who was managing a bedside vigil.

Then Jean made us all laugh about some of the good fun times we have had together. A truly amazing person, always putting others before herself and who has twice recovered from cancer herself. Blessings on my wonderful friends Bob and Jean.

Do What You Can

I passed around a note to all of my elderly neighbors with my phone number just in case they needed anything. One asked for soap and I was able to fulfill that need.

I offered our houseboat to a friend with a young child who is recovering from a heart transplant last year (very low immunity) and to another friend who has been furloughed and has a young family whose wife serves on the front-line as a nurse.

Sometimes all that I can do is offer a kind word here, a friendly post there, or maybe run an errand. Just doing what I can to serve others. Keep spreading the love wonderful KindSpringers.
