Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Counting My Blessings And Keeping Warm

--by RoseMarie, posted Jan 16, 2017

Well, this is a story. It's a story of gratitude, love, compassion, giving, receiving, faith and probably a whole lot more.

I've been having problems with the boiler in my house. It's been temperamental for a while but truth is, in terms of other financial priorities, it's on the long finger and that's where I wanted to keep it.

Yesterday the heating engineer called by with some replacement parts which he'd ordered. He spent about 2 hours and despite his best efforts he said he couldn't get it to work. He'd ordered a part costing £120 which he said he was going to be left with as the boiler had packed in. I told him I would pay for it to which he replied he probably had broader shoulders financially than I did. Well, that's when the dam broke and I'm ashamed and embarrassed to say I started to cry.

A new boiler is needed, cost £1200. I don't have that spare cash especially after Christmas and while I have a good job it is only part time. He was a legitimate guy and without any pressure, told me he does interest free payments well, at least that was something I had to be grateful for.

After working at the system I know in my heart needs replaced, he somehow got it to work again. Despite this, I'm aware how temperamental the boiler is. I looked at my reserve cash, and um, had £270. well it's a start. I thought.

I have a sister and husband who are so good to me you wouldn't believe and I didn't want to share this drama with them, they're already over and above when it comes to helping me.

I was due to meet a friend for coffee. I didn't feel like going but knew I needed to vent this to someone so that I could get past it. I told her all, in her car tears and all so that at least we could get it out of the way and enjoy our night out. I ended up telling her I was grateful that at least I had 25% of the cost.

Today Sheila, my friend,  arrived at my house with a card for me, very low key passed the card to me and left. This is what it said:

Rose-Marie, I couldn't get a verse from James 2: 15,16 out of my head since last night so decided to put it into practice today. " If one of you says to him "Go in peace;  keep warm and well fed, but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? " So this is a gift to help keep you warm! Love and prayers Sheila xx'

Inside the card was a cheque for £300!! Wow, if I cried many tears yesterday, I can tell you they were nothing in comparison to today.

A need has been met, it has come from a heart full of love and compassion and Godliness and I am receiving with a heart full of gratitude because I know this is how this sequence of events was ordained to be.

Now I have 50% of the cost of the boiler, I will only need to pay interest free on the remaining 50% .

My heart is filled with gratitude and love and I feel so Blessed.  The world is indeed full of good  people.  X
