Smiles At The Walking Track

--by traceykenard, posted May 2, 2012

I like to exercise on the walking track near my house and I purposely walk into the "traffic." You see, people usually go in the same direction as everyone else. But not me!

I walk against the flow, looking everyone in the eye as I pass and giving them a bright, "Good morning!" with a big smile!

Some folks don't respond, or some folks do but without a smile. But the others look right back at me and return my greeting with a warm "Good morning" of their own.

Then, as we pass each other doing laps, we keep smiling. That's my gift to the world - I'm ALWAYS smiling!

I have a 10 year old son named bryton who has autism and he has not been able to feel comfortable enough to really make a lot of eye contact with others especially strangers. One thing i do know is that he loves routine and unconditional love. So for kiddos like bryton knowing that your smiling eyes would be there each time we passed by just may give him the confidence to look back in your smiling eyes just for a quick second. Thank you.
