Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Two Wolves - A Cherokee Tale

--by MAG, posted Aug 16, 2014
A Cherokee is telling his grandson about a fight
that is going on inside himself.

He said it is between 2 wolves.
One is evil: Anger, envy, sorrow, regret,
fearful thinking, greed, arrogance, self-pity,
guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies,
false pride, superiority and ego.

The other is good: Joy, peace, love, hope, serenity,
humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity,
truth, compassion and faith.

The grandson thought about it for a minute
and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf wins?"

The Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

What happens if you don't feed a hungry angry wolf? It gets more angry! The wisdom in this story is that we need to feed both wolves. The angry wolf just needs some attention and love and then the anger is transformed. The bits of ourselves that we deny just become bigger and result in mental and physical ill health. The answer is always love. Give the angry wolf love and acceptance and he will become your ally. And look after the kind wolf too. Duality will become one as is the alchemical reality of all transformational work. One love to all.
