Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Friday Rocked

Hello, my Kindness Angels.  I want to share what made yesterday such a good day. During the challenge we were asked to repay a kindness or pay it forward. I postponed that one until now.

Eight months ago today I had a cervical fusion [healing way too slowly, unfortunately.] My sister was here and I really appreciated it. A week before my surgery a good friend found out her sister had metastatic bladder cancer and was scheduled for surgery. She wanted to be here for me and I told her she needed to go. I had my sis and she needed to be with hers.

On her return, she brought me good food and gave up some of her precious weekends to schlep me around and many other nice things. I knew she would be going  back to see her sister again.

So this week I cooked up a storm. Friday evening I took pulled pork, white chil,i and mac and cheese to her adult son who lives at home. He has some kitchen and other challenges. I did not want him to eat from boxes and cans while she is gone. Food is love.

When I dropped her at the airport for a redeye, she kept saying over and over how grateful she was and that none of her other friends had stepped up.

She wondered if there were any kind people left in the world. So I told her about KindSpring and how it has enriched my life over the last six weeks. She is intrigued by us. She told me to tell you that I rock.

On the receiving end, I got a couple of hours of housework from another friend who refused compensation. She just moved back, and I’m so happy she is “home” again.

But the crowning glory of the day was that cranky landlord brought me a bouquet of hot pink Gerbera daisies. Not a typical move for her. I have been feeding her the last couple of weeks since we had a confrontation over audio volumes. And happily enough, the noise from above is considerably less. A good day all around.
