Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Kindness dispensed

I had to go back to the hospital for neck x-rays today, nearly 9 months after my cervical fusion which has been so very slow to heal. Everyone in the department seemed to be having a bad day. It seems my kindness trademark continues to be a small bag of candy [gold wrapped chocolate coins now that the Halloween candy is all gone :-)] with a smile card inside. I gave out 4 in the department and offered a hug which was accepted by two. They all seemed to love it.

Then saw my doc and got the news that there is finally some "substantial" fusion and I can start rehabbing the neck muscles. Gave out two more in his office. But the most precious memory for today happened at Trader Joe's, where many good events shared on KS seem to take place.

I was chatting with a young man off and on as we encountered each other in different aisles. I ended up behind him at checkout. As he left I gave him one of my bags. When I got to my car he approached me and thanked me profusely. Said he really needed it today as he was having a tough time. I asked why. Last week he learned his mother has stage 4 cancer. She is back in Tennessee [ we are in Oregon]. He and his wife are trying to figure out how to get back there to help her.

I asked if he needed a hug too. Told him that was my mission today - candy, smiles, and hugs. He gladly accepted one. So please keep Scottie in your prayers. Goodnight, my kindness angels!
