Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Wigs For Kids

Hi everybody -I would really like to share with you all something I did last month that made me feel so good inside.

So I had a lot of hair, pretty much at my waist and I loved it and my friends loved it. They were all saying how nice and thick it was, and how good it was for doing different hairstyles on and how lucky I was to have such long hair.

But, (haha there's always a but) it was heavy and was always getting in the way. I'd put my dishes in the dishwasher and my hair would fall over my shoulders and land in last nights dinner. Or if I put the car window down it would attempt to fly out the window, and don't even get me started about wearing sticky lipgloss on a windy day. :)

Anyway, I wanted to get a fair amount cut off, because I thought it was time. I was talking to my friends about it and one of them mentioned that her older sister used to have really long hair like mine, and she donated over half of it to charity. This sparked an interest in me so I started looking at different charities online. I came across the AAAF website, and decided this was something I really wanted to do. So I booked a hairdressers appointment and went to go have 35cm of my hair chopped off.

I put my ponytail of hair in an envelope and sent it off, feeling great that I could help someone else's life. The hair I was sending off would be made into a wig for a child who has had chemotherapy, and has lost their hair due to cancer. I wasn't expecting anything back, I was just pleased to be doing this small thing for someone else.

But last week I received a letter in the post thanking me for my contribution of hair and letting me know just how much they appreciated the gesture.

Now I am finding that I don't even miss my hair and can't wait until my hair is long enough, so I can do it all again!

So as it neared christmas she was really excited that her hair was finally long enough. I was trying to talk her into cutting her hair before christmas but she decided to wait til her birthday. I had always told her that i would take her to get her hair cut if she really wanted to do it. The week before her birthday she found a hairstyle she liked so here we went for the special haircut. She was so nervous while sitting there waiting for the beautician. I told her if you will do this i will do mine too. She did it! She was so excited to tell everyone why she cut her hair!
