20: Create A Post-Virus Vision For The World

Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research. --Albert Einstein

Create A Post-Virus Vision For The World: Pauses in our lives are conducive to reflection and insight. In 1687, Sir Isaac Newton published one of his major works on his theory of universal gravitation. Concepts of gravity as well as calculus had surfaced in his mind 22 years prior when he was sent home from college to self-isolate during London's Great Plague. What will be the discoveries and collective breakthroughs during this pandemic, and these tumultuous times? We don't know for sure, but this is a great opportunity for a dramatic shift in our thinking. For those of us who find our lives paused, this is an opportunity to reflect on what our heart most deeply yearns for and to begin the process of reshaping and redesigning our lives in ways that align with our deeper calling. Additionally, this is a time where we can ponder how we might celebrate and even amplify the aspects of our lives that we love and wish to see expand. It also calls for "a redesign of all human made systems based on values and methods that truly preserve the ecological and cultural diversity of natural systems." As Vinoba Bhave put it, "If you eat, you are part of systems." How can we find greater coherence between our values and the systems with which we interact? Perhaps reflect in a journal or engage online tools or assessments to navigate where you stand. What aspects of your life would benefit from a gentle redesign? What aspects do you want to celebrate? In times of change, may we find love and courage to take greater steps towards a more sustainable and harmonious future.
