Stories of Kindness from Around the World

There Was A Series ...

There was a series on the Nature of Things with David Suzuki about the senses. The segment about touch had a story about a man who had through illness had lost his sense of touch from the neck down. He could still walk and move as if he had feeling but he had none at all. He was an egg grader by trade and need to relearn how to hold an egg so that he wouldnt break it. After losing his sense of touch he couldnt feel the egg so held it too tight or too loose but with time he learned to use his sense of sight to gauge how to hold the egg without breaking it. He woke up one morning and thought someone was trying to suffocate him with a hand lying heavily across his face. Once he fully awoke he realized the hand was his; he couldnt feel where his arm was in relationship to his body so during his sleep he had flung it across his head and left it there. As with taste medication can affect our sense of touch in our hands and feet and illness such as diabetes can do the same thing. Imagine not being able to feel the grass beneath your feet, the feel of a loved ones hand in yours, the sensation your clothes on your body; so many things that we take for granted would be gone. Lets touch everything as if tomorrow we would not be able to feel them again and be grateful that we can. Please feel free to share, if you are so inspired.
