Changing The World Through Cricket

While Mindyjourney, our friend Cathie and I visited with our Kindspring friend KMBhai in Kanpur. India this past October, we spent a morning visiting with the KindWings cricket team — one of KMBhai’s social work projects to provide a healthy outlet for local boys.

We presented them with a gift of new team polo shirts. These light blue shirts were welcomed by the team and after they all donned them, they looked so professional!

The boys were very thrilled to have these shirts and I thought somehow that wearing these shirts would help elevate the team’s game on the field. Come to learn this week that they were just featured in a news story on a nation-wide television station, and wearing those blue polo shirts no less!

You can view the news story in the link provided here, the team story begins about 20 minutes in: https://youtu.be/kua5Uwhh7bo

I asked KMBhai to interpret; here is his response:

“This news is based on Fit India and Healthy India concept. In the news, I (KMBhai) am emphasizing (promoting) for rural India talent. Children from rural India areas or poorer areas also have talent to perform at the national level. They should also get an opportunity to show their talent. Sports are not just for the rich communities. Children from poorer areas of India should also have the right to showcase their talent and abilities.”

Ankit (the young man that spoke after KMBhai) also emphasized KMBhai’s points and spoke about how he loves to play and wants to perform on the national level.

I cannot express in words how proud I am of KMBhai’s work with these boys, of Ankit, and of the whole team in general. I am also proud and happy to have played/batted a few pitches with these incredible young men on the same field shown in this video!
