“At Sea Turtle Inc., our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured sea turtles, educate the public, and assist with conservation efforts for all marine turtle species.”

What a great way to spend a rainy, windy day on South Padre Island, Texas!

We learned about the importance turtles play in the ecological balance and what the center does to rehabilitate injured turtles and shelter a few permanent residents like:

❤️ Allison - the one flipper, prosthetic wearing turtle!
❤️ Fred - the loggerhead, with a missing front flipper, who likes to spray visitors, when he’s feeling frisky :)). (He did while we were there, and afterwards watched the drenched folks with a grin! Well, it looked like he was grinning :))).
❤️ Merry Christmas - who was discovered during a “cold stranding event” on Christmas Eve and whose back fin never developed.

It was heartening to see the visitors, especially the children, who were so intrigued and interested. Education and respect for creatures, conservation and awareness, are the keys to a better tomorrow.

Grateful for each volunteer, each effort, each turtle so valiantly struggling to live!

Grateful I had brought along a bag of origami turtles to share with the volunteers and visitors too. So many beautiful smiles and connections 😊.
