Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Missing Benjamin

Today is Ben's birthday. In two weeks it will be four years since he disappeared. The story and his Missing Poster is on our website under under1000skies.org/MissingBenjamin

Last year on this day I kicked off Buttons for Benjamin, a year of kind acts every single day.  Most were quiet things, some were to me, some to others as letters, gifts or calls, or simply visualizing the best possible outcome.  But every day I showed up.  I will never stop doing this.  As so many in our tribe here have taught me, kindness is a way of life now.

It's especially hard today. His sister said the same.  She's strong, but birthdays are especially hard.  We really make a big deal about birthdays in our family. We call and sing or and send gifts if they are not around, or make a cake and blow up balloons and put up streamers and have a party if they are.  I started this when the kids were little.

Ben's not here, but in my heart, my 36-year old man is still that little boy, eyes full of wonder at another new year.  And never has this Gem been truer. Yes, the valley is deep, but it can contain that much more joy.
