The Choice is Ours
Throughout our lives we have worked, played, travelled and raised our children (if we have them). We may now be retired and have time on our hands. Is there something we have always wanted to do, but our focus and energies were placed elsewhere? What is stopping us from doing it now? If we have the health, the resources and now we have time, what is stopping us from pursuing our dreams? What is it we have wanted to do? Perhaps we have always wanted to go to college or university to take a course on a subject we are passionate about. At this point it may not be about pursuing a new career, although it has been done. It may be about personal growth, expanding our knowledge base and doing new and challenging. Maybe it isn’t schooling we are seeking but adventure and travel. Do we hesitate because we have no one to travel with? Perhaps now is the time to spread our wings and find ways to travel on our own. It may feel scary to start, but that is part of stepping out of our comfort zone. It may take a change in attitude, to recognize that we are not too old to try something new, something that excites us and give us a sense of purpose. Others may try to discourage us, stating we are too old to try something new, but should we let that stop us? It is up to us to decide if what they say has any validity or not and to remember that the choice is ours to make. Setting out to fulfill our dreams, expanding our knowledge, travelling to places we have only seen in pictures gives us a sense of accomplishment that no one can take away from us.
