My Best Smile Card Day Ever

For quite a while now, I have been looking for someone very special to give my very last smile card to. Well, today, I had to go into town for an art exhibition that I had entered a piece in. Since it is winter here, I have not ventured out of the house very much at all. So today I thought i would treat myself to lunch-- something I haven't done in ages! I walked around for a long time downtown, looking at all the glowing options like a child in a toy shop. It was really hard to decide what to eat! Finally, I settled on some Thai food, from a buffet-type place. When I sat down, I noticed a man walk by and sit down a few tables away from me. He had a small dish of yogurt, which he ate quickly, scraping the sides of the dish to ... Read Full Story >>

A Thank You To The People That Help

My son was competing in a school competition for bowling, and after watching him play a few rounds, I let him know I was going to walk around the shops for a while.  Afterward, I was on my way back to watch my son bowl some more when I noticed a man sitting on a seat holding onto the side of a trolley.  As I got closer, I began wondering if he had a disability but realized he was in distress when I noticed his knuckles had turned white.  I approached him asking if he was ok.  He looked at me and mumbled some words, so I asked if he was diabetic, but he just stared at me.  I tried to get him to sit upright to relieve his fingers, but he was a large man, and I had to call for help.  Two ladies came to his aid from the ... From A Sad Time To A HelpOthers Time

I have just given away my first two 'Smile Cards'. My mum is ill in hospital so i have been sitting at her bedside for the last three days. On the first day when I entered the emergency department I saw a young girl of about twenty-five sitting on her own, looking a bit sad. I looked at her and smiled. She looked at me but her face remained sad, so I reached into my bag and handed her a Smile card. She took it and read the words (You've been tagged.) She looked my way and said, "Thank you." And then came the big bright smile! It gave me goose-bumps! The  next afternoon, when I was leaving the hospital, I spotted another young girl waiting for a bus. She was on her phone and was crying. I walked up to her and, without a word, handed her a Smile card. She looked into my ... Read Full Story >>

Kindness in a uniform

Officer Thomas was about to arrest Jessica Robles, for stealing food to feed her hungry children, but changed her mind at the last minute. Instead of arresting her, she bought Robles $100 worth of groceries: “I made the decision to buy her some groceries because arresting her wasn't going to solve the problem with her children being hungry.” And there’s no denying they were hungry. Robles’ 12 year old daughter started crying when she told local TV station WSVN about how dire their situation was: “[It's] not fun to see my brother in the dirt hungry, asking for food, and we have to tell him, ‘There is nothing here.’" Officer Thomas says she has no question that what she did was right: “To see them go through the bags when we brought them in, it was like Christmas. That $100 to me was worth it.” But Officer Thomas did have one request: “The ... Read Full Story >>

Weekly Groceries With An Extra Portion of Kindness

I did my monthly shopping today.  I went in to a cool room to buy my meat where they sometimes have specials on.  I picked up as much as I thought I could afford.  We have been going through tough times lately and I had saved up $60 for meat.   When the checkout lady rang it all up, the total came to $71.85.

I begun to explain that I would need to put some of the meat back.  She stopped me from reaching into the pile and told me not to worry about the extra amount.  I had taken out the dog bones but she put them back in to some carry bags and just wished me a good day...WOW!

I was so happy and moved by this gesture.  I thanked her before I left. I wish I had had a smile card to give to her.  As soon as I get some more, I will definitely head over and hand her one or two cards with a big thank you smile on my face.  The extra meat will definitely be welcomed.

Helping Even in the Midst of Losing a Home

Thank God for the beautiful souls in this world! Today a friend and I went to a garage sale. The reason for the sale was that a family had lost their house and they were moving in with their relatives. My friend is pregnant and doesn't have enough money to get all of the things she will need for her baby. So, I brought her a pram and car seat at the garage sale. My friend asked about a cot the family were selling but it was beyond both our price ranges. She made the best offer she could and left her number with them just in case the cot didn't sell and they decided to accept her offer. Later in the afternoon the women rang my friend and said that they had sold the cot - but had a lot of things that didn't sell if she wanted them! These included pregnancy clothes, ... All She Needs Is A Prayer Or Two Away

A friend called over yesterday to use my home phone as she had no credit on her mobile (cell.) She then began talking about having no food in her pantry as she had spent her money the week before so her daughter could go on a school trip to Sydney Zoo.    She called a few charities to try for some food and assistance. I spent the whole morning with her trying to find a solution to some of her other worrys and driving her to pick up some food.    My friend is also 38 weeks pregnant and has  a five year old daughter and has been finding things really tough over the past few weeks. So, each Saturday we visit garage sales where I have gotten her a pram, car seat, baby sling, bottle sterilizer, and other needed items.   Yesterday I visited the supermarket for food and took her with me, telling her ... A Labradoodle Shares A Little Love

Molly, my Labradoodle, comes with me to visit my mum at her nursing home.

My mum likes to sit a while with Molly before going to sleep. When this happens, after she's asleep, I take Molly around to the other residents..

There was one lady that the nurses were trying to get a reaction from. She was leaning forward in her chair, not responding to their voices even though she was clearly awake. So, I took Molly over to her and Molly started to lick her.

Now this lady rarely speaks.

She laughed out loud, a real belly laugh! Then she met Molly's gaze and hugged her!

Seeing what a difference animals make to people in this situation is so uplifting and rewarding.

Back After Fifteen Years, To Help A Friend

I have a friend who is really struggling at the moment. Thankfully, I turned up at the right moment, after we had been apart for fifteen years!

And boy oh boy, does she needs a friend, so I am determined to be it. In trying to help her I have met some really lovely people who are willing to help and if they can't help personally they are always giving me numbers to call and places to try for help.

I only just found the help she needs and have sent off an e-mail. When their office is open I will call them personally. And i know that God is working  with me to get the the help she needs.

In the process, over the last few weeks, I have learned that there is always someone out there willing to help. Sometimes it may take a while to find that help and understanding but with a little work you will find it - or they will find you!

The Gift Of New Shoes For A Wedding

I was at a wedding recently and we stayed with friends, who were also parents of the bride!

I took two pairs of shoes with me as I couldn't decide which ones I should wear. I tried one pair on and decided that they were probably too high for me to dance comfortably in.

A friend of the friend who was getting married told me how much she loved that first pair. I could easily have sold them as they were good quality leather. Instead, to brighten her day, I gave them to her.

She was so appreciative and couldn't thank me enough! I didn't have any smile cards on me - but we were both smiling and that's the main thing!
