Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Conversation and New Connections

--by suse15, posted Jun 13, 2016
Last night we went to a wedding. Mostly there to support the father of the bride. I generally don't like crowds. I chose to go out of my way to compliment people, make small talk and ask questions about things that mattered to them. We had a great time and left feeling very connected to a few new friends. :-)

I realized that after spending so much of my time on KindSpring, it allowed me to view the situation differently. Instead of being concerned about whether I fit in or had something to say, I simply saw around me humans who could benefit from connection . . . and kindness. :-)

I found that i kept having the courage to open up a conversation with them, sometimes this worked. Most of the time though, i found that folk were shy of talking or responding and quite a lot of the time i felt rather silly when that happened hahaha! But i sort of thought, just keep on trying and that it wasn't me who was having a problem with it. By the end of the camp, i noticed that while folk weren't stopping for a chat, they were at least more willing to say something as we passed. It's something about coming out of your comfort zone a little.
