Stories of Kindness from Around the World

A Hello For No Expectations In Return

Yesterday I had been thinking of how I could be mindful, and by the end of the day, I still had not done anything. Then, I realized that I have done something small again. It did not have an effect on anyone but myself. Here's what I did: I had been constantly passing by the recycle, compost and garbage bin all day at work and seeing a piece of cardboard on the floor beside the bin. Lightning hit me and I picked it up and dropped it inside the recycle bin. Went home happy.

Today I woke up thinking of what to do. I was determined to make a difference, but I did not have anything in mind. Then I realized that it does not have to be intentional, it will come and I will wake up to feeling the wonders of being mindful. Today I walked into the office and greeted everyone with a smile, I walked inside the office of one of our faculty members and saw her back turned around , focused into her computer.

I stood there for a minute until later she realized my presence. She looked up and asked me...what I needed. I replied by saying: "Nothing", I just wanted to say hello and good morning" she looked at me with "AWH" and with an apology indicated to me that no one has come to her with no purpose but to say hello, as people come to her with either a problem or a need for something. I looked into her eyes and saw a glow that I have never seen before.
