Stories of Kindness from Around the World

A Moment Etched In Her Heart She'll Never Forget

--by MakeSomeoneSmile, posted Sep 9, 2016
Yesterday I followed my heart to do an act of kindness for someone in need. A family who comes to our weekly homeless meal and ministry has been struggling. The mom was very upset on Tuesday, as she has not been able to get some help that she needed. She tries very hard to support her family but has not been able to get many hours for work. I stopped by her house on my way home from the office. I talked to her and her kids for a few minutes and then gave her an envelope with a note and a little help, apologizing it couldn't be more. She took it and went inside as I talked to her kids for another minute.

As I said goodbye and opened the door to get into my car, she came out the door calling my name. I turned around as she came through the gate. She gave me one of the biggest hugs I have ever received. She thanked me and began sobbing in my arms. It was a very emotional moment for us both as she went back into her house a few minutes later.

As I drove home I realized I had received far more than anything I gave her. You never know how much something small might mean to someone else. Life reminded me of that last night and left a fingerprint on my heart I won't ever forget!
