Stories of Kindness from Around the World

What If Kindness Became The Norm

--by ppajka, posted Mar 17, 2009

I was in the drive thru at Wendy's and this young girl pulled up behind me.  When I paid for my food, I told the guy I'd like to pay for her's also.  His first reaction was, "What did you do to her?"  I told him it was just a random act of kindness and would he just give her the card when she went to pay.  When I left the parking lot of Wendy's the girl was still fussing about paying for her meal.  I guess some people just don't understand random acts of kindness but that will not deter me from continuing to do them.   Maybe one day it will become the norm instead of the unusual thing to do.

That's the spirit. Keep it going forward inspite of negative response. When anybody reacts like this it is a negative emotion.

That's one of the nicest things about this site, seeing that you're not alone in doing RAKs. In some situations where I've wanted to help someone I've been worried about their reaction and possible embarrassment for me.
I once took a bouquet of flowers to an old lady in a nursing home because I used to see her sitting in a window seat every day looking out, but when the nurse said come and give them to her yourself I felt really embarrassed and politeley but very hurridly left. I get strength from reading about all the good deeds on here! Till now my deeds have been mainly anonymous :), Love Candle

I don't know how people respond because by the time they get up to the window i have already pulled out but i'm sure that there are mixed emotions! Anyway i just say a prayer for them & move on.

Enjoyed your story. Thanks for posting it! :)
