Kind Words That Touched a Young Mother

--by candle, posted Apr 2, 2009

I was on the bus with two of my young children this morning. My daughter was chatting away to me.

When the bus came to its next stop an older lady was getting off. As she passed me, she smiled and said, "You're a good mum."  I thanked her and was a little bit embarassed.

Then, after she got off, tears came into my eyes. It meant so much to me because no one ever really says that -- probably most mum's don't hear that very much!  I'm really grateful to her for taking the time to say it.  Having said all that, I don't know what I was doing that made her want to say it!!

Just makes your day, eh? I'm so glad! :-)
I'm sure next time you see a mom doing a "good job" you'll make a nice comment too!

It always makes me sad when i see the only communication some parents have with their children is "get here now, get down, don't do that, stop it, shut up, what you crying for? " but a parent that speaks to their children and answers their never-ending questions. Although "why? " can be very frustrating at times, if you can resist saying "because i said so" then you have climbed a mountain, developed your childs intelect through curiosity and forged an open and honest relationship with them that will last a lifetime. Be happy, hug your children and know they will always feel comfortable asking you questions (even though they may get more embarrassing as the years pass! ) lalit

Modestobob wrote: Candle...You probably "are a great mum!" It's the little things in life that make the big things little. The day-to-day acts of motherhood and friendship with your children pay off in marvelous ways. The line-upon-line, precept-on-precept, day-by-day approach has made my wife the "best mum" around. It's working for you too!
Hugs and smiles are coming your way too! X :-) X

AURELIA wrote: I used to hear that sometimes when mine were little too. It meant so much to me. Often I see a mom that is really handling/juggling all the immediate attention the little ones need and I make it a point to say how wonderful she and they are!!!! Thank you for reminding me to say even more!!!
