Stories of Kindness from Around the World

An Anonymous Wedding Gift

--by chzmzati, posted Apr 24, 2009

When my sister got married some time back, we were all excited.  After her honeymoon she invited me over to her house to help her unwrap the gifts and send some thank you notes to all the people that came to the wedding party.  As a side note, my sister works at Standard Bank in Malawi.

Going through the gifts, we came across this precious exotic ice bucket in silver and gold.  I had never seen such a beautiful ice bucket.  Inside it was a note that read,

"When I heard you were getting married, I asked around for the details and somehow managed to get here.  You might not know me but I know you.  I am a regular customer at Standard Bank and you helped me a lot when I was applying for a loan.  I will never forget what you did, God bless you.  -- Anonymous"

When I showed my sister the note, she couldn't remember who the person was probably because she had helped a lot of people with their loan applications.  But she was deeply touched that someone could do such a thing as to show up at her wedding with such a precious gift.

We could not write a thank you note back to this person so we decided to simply pray for him/her.  A little kindness went a long way...think about it.

tressyanne wrote: that is so wonderful. People do care and you just never know when someone is appreciating everything you do. That is why we must always smile and treat others the way we want to be treated. That person really thought alot of your sister. Good for her.
Thanks for sharing that story.

Always treat people with kindness because what you sow is what you reap; and the harvest may take different forms. When you plant kindness be certain that you will reap the fruits, the only uncertain thing is when, how and in what form.

Thank you for a wonderful story.

Cheers.
