Cherish Life Today for Tomorrow May Never Come

Let Me Be A Little Kinder

Glen Campbell

Let me be a little kinder
Let me be a little blinder
To the faults of those about me
Let me praise a little more
Let me be when I am weary

Just a little bit more cheery
Think a little more of others
And a little less of me

Let me be a little braver
When temptation bids me waver
Let me strive a little harder
To be all that I should be

Let me be a little meeker
With the brother that is weaker
Let me think more of my neighbor
And a little less of me

Let me be when I am weary
Just a little bit more cheery
Let me serve a little better
Those that I am strivin' for

Let me be a little meeker
With the brother that is weaker
Think a little more of others
And a little less of me

We attend a funeral service planned for Danny at 2pm on Friday.

Last week, two days before Father’s Day, a close personal friend of mine, lost her husband suddenly to an unexpected, massive heart attack. It happened the same day as Tim Russert’s. For my friend Kim, it was, as you can imagine…devastating.  A new marriage just a year before, looked like it would last for many years. Both married previously with grown children, both in good health and both in their late 40’s, this wasn’t supposed to happen. They were going to grow old together. It wasn’t in the script they’d laid out.  Yet it happened.

Instead of preparing a nice Father’s Day Feast for her wonderful husband Danny, Kim was making funeral arrangements. How tragic is that?

As I contemplate that turn of events, I’m drawn to the idea of making sure that we “Cherish Life Today for Tomorrow May Never Come!” I will make better preparations today. I'll make ammends with those that have wronged me and those that for some reason I still hold grudges with. I'll better share my love and friendship more with those I love and care for. Life is short and sometimes unpredictable. I want to be on the right side of things here.

There was a Glen Campbell song over 30 years ago called Let Me Be A Little Kinder that kind of brings home this thought. The lyrics are here below.

Silly humans that we are, we go about taking it for granted. So painful to learn in this way that every smile, every tender moment could be the last we share with one we love. Thank you for reminding us to treasure who we love. Be blessed now and always... and Love like there is no tomorrow.
