Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Seeing The Good Stuff

--by healingtree, posted May 10, 2017
It is a kind act to myself and others to look for what is right in myself, in the community, in society, the world--in short, life itself. Taking a break today from engaging with what can seem to me to be the desperately dark politics of a globe in distress. From looking at all that is wrong, which is seemingly endless, and instead trying to focus on the amazing, gnarly, beautiful phenomenon that is 'my very own experience.'

So, despite a headache and powering on only 3 hours sleep, I aim to "choose to see the good stuff" today. And there is an abundance of good around me: the post office staff were friendly as I begin to try tracing a missing Easter parcel to my infant grandson in Melbourne, the sky really is a cloudless late April blue, my pet dog PoodleNoodle is recovering from her vaccine yesterday but is as always a joyous companion, my mother gave me a recipe yesterday that her own grandmother used to make and I am replicating it as best I can a bit later, and I spent a couple of hours as a volunteer (been doing this for eons) engaging with a person in crisis. And more.

Maybe on a separate page I will try to list every positive thing I can think of in my day so far that I can scribble down in five minutes. It would be a long list!  Ie. Bluebells, Kindspring posts, coffee, blueberries, my husband's incredible whole meal date bread spread with a bit of butter, and the list could go on and on!

This is just an encouragement to give yourself, and others, a break for awhile noticing what is good about yourself, those around you, the very air and water that comes your way. "The whole catastrophe", as Zorba the Greek said so memorably in the film. "Life is good."

no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should...
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul...
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world." From The Desiderata. At times I like to remember that life is a like a meditation, and that during meditation we turn from our outer experience to that which is within and when we do we find peace and stillness waiting for us there. And daily life is much like this too. We can become too scattered and over-involved, caught up in the whole world’s problems which are not ours to bear. As you suggest, it’s good to remember to become centred again by focussing on what is immediately around us and make a fresh start from there. Peace BE with you today :)))

Sometimes I have the impression that we are being trained from child on to focus on the bad stuff only, ignore the good stuff. But remembering all the good in your life helps quickly, I have started practicing to remember the good moments of the day, what I can be grateful for etc. each evening before going to sleep a while ago ... it erally helped me ...

I got soaked, but just said hopefully they were trying save someone and that is why they were in a hurry. The date bread sounds yummy
