Teaching Kindness in Health Class

--by Neise, posted Jul 4, 2009

I teach health to 7th grade students and I always inculde a unit on Kindness.  Each student is asked to perform random acts of kindness during the health program.  They are told to perform some at school and some at home and after they are to record them and hand in the paper with all their acts on the paper.  They start out with small ones like picking up someone's pencil but then they really start to get into it and they end op doing things for their parents without being asked.  I really enjoy seeing them get so exctied about what they are doing and the reaction they get from the people they do a random act for.  I even get notes from parents asking who is this child and what have I done with their child.  It is so nice to see my students from years ago and when they tell me they are still doing random acts and how much they still enjoy the way they feel after a random act of kindness.

You, Neise, are doing good work at the
time when children are still impressionable (which we adults regrettably tend to lose.) Please, continue with your valuable work!

You are doing a GREAT, I mean an absolutely great job! I want to thank you for doing what you are.
Teaching any conventional subject is easy, but what u r teaching (random acts of kindness) would take ur students a long way in life!! And yes, it starts with a small step like picking up a pencil only! Small seeds grwo into big trees.
I want to honour you by gifting u a blue ribbon (Pl read my post Blue Ribbon). I cannot physically pin up my blue ribbon on ur shirt and hence one has to be content with the virtual one!!
Love & regards,
Nandi
