Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Watering Love Wherever I Go

Today, after I dropped my daughter at Youth Move, I had about an hour before she needed picked up, so I picked up lunch at the nearby natural food store when I was downtown. On my way inside, I looked to my left and noticed a nice elderly couple who seemed to be down on their luck. Intuition told me to get some McKenzie Mist water and bring the bottles to them, so I did.

By that time, her husband had stepped away, so I brought the water bottles to the woman, who I learned was named Deborah. She was reading the paper when I came by and looked over at me with the most pleasant grin that glowed. She was very grateful for the water and remembered having McKenzie Mist water in the home that they used to have. That is all I learned of their story the first time I passed by. As I left, I smiled back at her and said something along the lines of, "May your blessings keep getting better." She smiled widely and I continued to walk to the library, a few short steps away.

After I left the library, I offered Deborah another hug, and she beamed back at me with her beautiful, sweet smile. Her happy, sky blue summer outfit matched the airy, whimsical nature about her. I felt so comfortable with her, no matter what her present life circumstance was. I enjoyed the flow of the experience.

After the hug, I thanked her for her kindness in cleaning up cigarette butts she had seen laying on the sidewalk, presumably left by other people. She said she no longer drank and she did not do any drugs. She seemed happy, despite her circumstances. I was happy for her. I could tell she had gratitude and faith. She commented on ideas for the city to fix up that particular vacant lot, and expressed some great ideas, although my memory is escaping me at the moment. They were terrific ideas, though!

I walked to my vehicle, feeling grateful for the moment and how her uplifting spirit had brightened my day. I hope to see her again, although hopefully, her and her husband are in better circumstances. Bless her dear heart.

I returned to pick up my daughter from Youth Move, and we went home after a few short errands.

I am grateful for the wonderful day it has been. There have been some moments of concern, yes, but I continue to focus on the positive and gratefulness.

May all of your days continue to be blessed, too!
