Stories of Kindness from Around the World

What If Everyone Thought About Others Once A Day?

--by nomad, posted Aug 6, 2009

I have had the most amazing two days. Browsing through some threads on my favorite forum, I came across this thread where a guy was asked by his gardener to build a PC for him and his kids. He brought him an old box with some hardware in it but it was not working at all.

The guy started looking at it and found out the specs and what he needed to do to fix it. He started a thread explaining the situation and asked if somebody had some cheap memory that he could buy (at his own cost) to fix this person's computer.  Not only did he get the memory for free, but a number of people offered him 2nd hand PC hardware that they were not using for no cost. It looks like he would have been able to build 2 PC's because of all the 'donations' this started as a mere ask for help -- it grew into so much more!

Later, as I was going to a Braai (barbeque) at a friend's house, I stopped at the supermarket in our local mall and just put 3 items in my basket. It was around 5 o'clock and the queues at the tills were quite hectic. I walked to one that was not so full and stood in line behind this lady with a half full grocery trolley. I was standing there thinking, "Should I ask her if I can go first," as I was in a bit of a hurry!  When the lady in front of her was almost finished at the till this lady turned around and asked me if I wanted to go before her since I only had 3 things and it would take a minute to conclude the sale. I accepted the offer.

Literally 10 minutes after this me and a friend were driving to meet some friends after work (hence the hurry). As we approached the traffic light, we saw this middle aged man pushing his car all alone - a breakdown. He was driving on his own, so he had no help and this was on a busy double-lane road with no shoulder for the man to pull off onto. He was obstructing traffic in a serious way! I reversed the car and ran over to help him push his car out of the way.  Seconds after I started pushing, another stranger pulled off the busy road and helped push the car also. On my way back both of the older gentlemen thanked me for helping out.

What if everyone just thought about somebody else once a day even if it was just for about 10 minutes?
