Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Teachable Moments For Kids

--by tammilinnf, posted Jan 23, 2018
I am on our Parent-Teacher board and we had to finish up a fundraiser Thursday after school so we were late getting home. I stopped at Wendy's to grab a quick dinner for my daughter and I.

When I got to the drive up window and tried to pay, the young man working said "it's ok we've got your order covered tonight! " What a nice surprise!!

I make it a habit whenever I have a few extra dollars, to pay for the next person who's in the drive thru behind me and I give the cashier a smile card to give them for me.

I especially like to do things like that when my kids are with me. I am constantly searching for what I call "teachable moments" so my children learn how to be decent, thoughtful and caring citizens. I'm always pointing out instances of RAOK, what karma means, what goes around comes around, etc.

So this trip to Wendy's was the perfect opportunity to show my daughter that all the times I've paid for someone else's dinner that now it was our turn for someone to do something nice for us:). It really helped to make her understand the "full circle" of paying it forward.
