Stories of Kindness from Around the World

The Purple Flowers Are For You!

--by cabbage, posted Feb 26, 2018
Took homemade cookies (made by a friend) to share with colleagues
Helped facilitate a process for someone who needed to troubleshoot something she hadn't done before

After work, I stopped by grocery store to pick up two bunches of flowers for friends in the neighborhood. As I was paying, the cashier said "The purple ones are for you!"--and I didn't really understand (I just thought he meant I should keep them for myself) but then as I was walking away I saw the receipt and noticed that he only charged me for one bunch of flowers! I was so touched, I immediately went back inside to the manager with a box of toffees I'd purchased (for someone else) and asked him to give it to the cashier later ;-)  I love doing stealth RAOKs for the folks who work there--it was such a surprise to be "gifted" with flowers myself :-)

I then found out that one of the people who I bought the flowers for just went into the hospital after fracturing her hip (she is almost 100 years old!)--so they are now Valentine's/Get Well flowers for her.

Dropped off the flowers for the other friend and decided we'd have to put off the 100th birthday party at the senior center til further notice.

Then I spent an hour on the phone helping my friend's daughter prepare for her biology exam! I love teaching--doesn't matter if I'm not on campus, ha ha!

Later, I stayed up to finish something else I had volunteered for.....and
signed up to volunteer for something else (tabling for a cause that's dear to my heart).

Agreed to write a letter of support to nominate a colleague for an award.

I'm reading the Dalai Lama's "Book of Joy" and so happy that I gave it to my dad and he is enjoying it too.

Grateful to all of you for being here. It's amazing how the little things in our daily lives add up to big changes - for ourselves and for others. What's on your list today?
