Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Are You Jesus?

--by rnteach, posted Apr 22, 2018
We were walking into the grocery store and my son, who is mentally challenged, asked me why there was someone outside asking for money and food. I tried to explain, for there are so many reasons, right? Drugs, looking for handouts....."But," J questioned, "how do you know he isn't Jesus?"

I looked back to my kindergarten year at parochial school. It seems that I colored Jesus purple. Mrs. Perez, my teacher, quickly corrected me. "Coryne, Jesus isn't purple!" I was not trying to be rude, but was really amazed! "Mrs. Perez," I related in a whisper filled with awe, "have you seen him? Is he really not purple?" So, looking through my son's eyes, as well as my perception, I realized that we really don't know what Jesus looks like. Yes, we purchased a snack and drink. Well, come to find out, he just lost his job as an Engineer. He was shocked that he had to beg for food. He enthusiastically dug into his sandwich, asking us if we would like some. J and I listened to his stories.

As we walked back to our car, J whispered, "I think he was Jesus, Mom, I think we were being tested. I passed, right?" This from a special child who has the heart of an angel!
