Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Kindness to those who Served

--by mindyjourney, posted Jun 25, 2018
Referring to communities surrounding Custer, SD, a disabled vet asked, "why would they be so kind to us?"

Operation Black Hills Cabin provides a low cost/free accessible vacation for disabled veterans and their families. Area merchants and grateful citizens contribute all KINDS of things, from meals to everything in-between.

From one of the 2017 hosted families:
"YES, my husband's military career ended with his final injuries. YES, we lost his way of making a living. YES, I had to quit my job to be his full-time caregiver. YES, he's a different father now. BUT, that does not define us. We are so much more. We are driving a UTV through mud getting filthy. We are playing a board game while laughing so hard we are crying. We are walking down the streets of Custer or Hill City while eating ice cream cones. We are ordering something different at the many great restaurants and trying each other's food. THANK YOU for this week. You gave us back to us."

❤️🇺🇸❤️

My brother-in-law made corn hole/bean bag toss game boards and donated this year :)))). It is quite the game around here and will be well enjoyed by Cabin guests in the years to come.

Not only was it an effort of time, energy, and materials to make, additionally a merchant was persuaded to donate a service-related graphic to decorate the boards.

The Cabin team were happy to receive a new stock of my patriotic Peace doves too, as they were almost out and put one in each family’s guest bag 🇺🇸🕊

Together, my kind friends, we remember those who have served by combining our appreciation, prayers and positive energy for healing.

When they take care of our country risking their own life it becomes our moral obligation to support them when they need help because of their personal injury or else. May they get what they dearly deserve from all those like you sister mindy who are willingly helping them. Thanks for sharing.
