Stories of Kindness from Around the World

About one year ago, the concept came to me of being grateful for the small good things that happen to us everyday. So I decided to start practicing it, and started noticing things that I hadn't before. For example, I started noticing how beautiful it was to wake up and see through the window of my room a very big rainbow. I was really grateful for being lucky enough to see that, and I kept on going - finding small things that would make my day. One day, something big happened...

I used to live in an area where the public transportation was not very good. If you came back home after 7pm you would have to wait in line for about an hour before you were able to get public transport or taxis. Because the line would be so long, there were many non-official "taxis" that would come by and offer to take people home without waiting so long, but for a a bit higher price, a price high enough that not everyone could afford everyday. Personally, I would take them only when I was really tired and I just wanted to be back home ASAP.

One day, when I took this "non official taxi", that was from the beginning even cheaper than the official ones, I said to myself "great I'm lucky today" and felt grateful. But that was just the beginning! When we arrived, the driver said that he would not charge anyone, that he was just doing it as a act of kindness, because his mother had done it before and he found it such a nice thing to do that he decided to continue it himself.

I felt so touched by his gitt,  there were not words for me to express how grateful I was for having the luck of being one of the people he took. He made my day and I felt so good during the following days because of that free ride home. So much so, that I decided that I wanted to do random acts of kindness myself that might have the same effect that this one had on me.
