Waste

--by balou, posted Jul 17, 2018
I just have received a good reminder how important reduction of waste is:
Living in an apartment building as just one of several tenants, our waste bins are usually quite full (not only because several other tenants are not interested in reducing or preventing waste but as they seem to be incapable of even cutting a cereals box down, much less other more sturdy packages ...)

Last week - for whatever reason - our waste was not collected as it usually is, so the little room where we have our bins is overflowing with waste ... a pity that in most cases it just elicited complaints of other tenants why the waste had not been collected ... no reflection on their own waste-generation and just blank stares when I suggested to be more mindful in this area .... (found these tips on the internet, maybe I just translate & print them and put them up in the wste room ;-))

Don't get me wrong, I'm unfortunately still far away of zero waste myself ... but I am mindful and try to buy with as less wrapping as possible ...reusable bags, flasks for my liquids, tap water, lunchbox etc. ... but here in the city almost everything you buy is wrapped in one way or anther ... even in the shops specialising on organic food ... and there are the habits ... for instant I'm still not used to using my cloth hankie in stead of paper hankies ;-)... and I just tried to make my own toothpaste-powder, let's see if I can get used to this ;-)

Keep up the good work. Perhaps place your poster in a public place; as another reader suggested, people may read it and change slooowly!

I would definitely put the poster in the bin room. People change slowly but they do!
A few years ago, i joined a group to pick up trash on the beach, it was very unusual. And now, there are groups everywhere doing clean. And there is even the ocean cleanup project which aims to clean the oceans!
