Finding An Opportunity To Help Someone Deserving

--by liztree, posted Dec 10, 2009

I belong to a networking group that sends out daily emails about local events and member updates.  Occasionally, resumes will be sent on behalf of members seeking employment.  I always review these in case I can create opportunities for others.  My company is struggling, so I don't have any jobs to offer.  But, as is my habit, I read a resume that was recently sent out.  I have a part-time job creating resumes and can quickly detect a strong or a weak profile.

Last week, I read a resume that had a couple of errors.  It was clear that the errors were due to a language barrier.  However, I was concerned that hiring managers would skip this woman's resume due to the errors.

I emailed the lady and offered to help her spruce up her resume at no cost.  I think she was surprised, but she accepted.  As I worked on her resume, her name was familiar but her latest company was not.  I inquired with a friend at work and discovered that his lovely lady had worked as a temp for my company.  She was a loyal worker and her peers hated to see her go.

How amazing that I would receive her resume via a channel completely unrelated to my job!  Talk about synergy!  There are no coincidences!!  I'm glad I offered my services and I am delighted to know that I have given them to someone so deserving.  I hope her new, polished resume lands her a great job where she can be well rewarded and appreciated.

Mostly, I am so thankful for the opportunity to give.  I love sharing on this website, but only post when I have a story of giving to tell.  I'm always so excited when I have earned the opportunity to post.

Angels live here in the form of human beings and you're certianly one of them! A kind thought and action - this is what make life wonderful.
