Ocean Lover!

I'm an ocean lover.... living in Montreal, far away from the ocean makes it even more a dream land for me.... and I try to visit at the very least, once a year.... and I've been doing it for the last 20 something years.

When I was younger, I would pick up shells rocks  and driftwood and bring them back home.... and ended up having tons of them on my shelves, floors, desks, etc. But as I visited the ocean more and more, I started picking up the garbage left by irresponsible polluting people... picking up less and less ocean treasure.... I was beginning to question my habits..... and one day, in California, I just had this revelation.

I realized that a stone you find in the ocean has a wonderful color that makes you pick it up.... but then, when it dries, you don't find it as lovely anymore,  so why pick it up in the first place? Anyway, I just realized then, that natural stuff, is nice in its natural surroundings.... and if everybody picked every shell from the ocean, and left the garbage out there.... the beach would become something not so nice very shortly.

So I made a decision that day, I was probably 28 or 29, that I would just "borrow" stuff from the ocean, and bring it back after a while.... since the beauty of shells does so much good for me.

I control the quantity.... and keep it to a minimum..... So if you've see a weird lady picking up trash and throwing shells back into the ocean, from a box or a bag, on a beautiful sunny day.... it was probably me.

On a beach in Koh phi-phi I noticed a young man collecting starfish and crabs to bring them back to the water when the tide was getting low. Instead of leaving them there to dry or get poached by people who try to sell them. Nature brought you a gift of finding a beautiful starfish, seashell or stone and after receiving it, it's time to return the gift!
