Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Filled by a Daughter's Love

--by RiahWillow, posted Jan 9, 2010

While getting ready for school today, my 16-year-old daughter made a point of coming into my room to give me a big hug and kiss.

When I asked her the proverbial question, "What do you want?" she replied, "Nothing momma. You always tell us to have a good day before we leave the house, but I was thinking about who tells you to have a good day and lets you know how much you are loved."

I am so touched by the capacity of love and understanding that comes from my children. My 15-year-old son asked me last night if there was a way for him to get a summer job this year in order to help us pay our bills. Unfortunately, in our area, he must be 16.  When telling him "no," he said that was ok because he had a lawn mower and as long as the grass grows, he could help out.

Both of my children depend on me so much because I am a single parent, but just when I think I will not be able to provide for them they come up with ways to help out. I completely understand that I will still have to find a way to pay the bills as I do not want my children taking up the slack. They are children, and have enough to do with school and marching band, and the volunteer work they do with the homeless. But for now the fact that they have stepped up and offered to help without anyone asking touches me.

When my daughter was 2 years old,  I remember rushing to get to work, and when I was at the front door, fussing at her to hurry up and come to the door. When she appeared at the door she had a bag that she was holding open. I said,  "We don't have time for this."  She stopped me and said, "Fill it with love momma."  I fell to my knees and hugged her and then kissed her and said "Thank you". From that moment forward she would bring the bag and I would bring the love to the door before we left for school and work.

Today she brought me the love.

You are all right, i am very blessed by my children daily.

We may not always have the $$ we need for the basics, but we are richer than oprah in love and respect for each other.

Thank you all for passing my story along to encourage others.

My son and daughter thank you as well.

Small update, my daughter has been working with my physical therapy, she has helped me to begin walking on a basic level. My son has taken care of all the errands like food shopping once a month and taking his old mom to docs appointments.

I don't know if i can take credit for who they are, but i am sure proud to say they are mine. I believe i have been blessed to have the children i have, with the spirit they have because someone knew i needed them to be amazing.

My daughter starts film school in the fall and is graduating hs in may, where my son will graduate next may and then on to music school. (he wants to be a music teacher).

I cannot even explain how blessed i truely am.

Thank you all for seeing how amazing my children are, it let's me know that when they go into the world that others will see their nature as well.

We are now at the phase that i am praying their adult years will be as blessed as they have made my adult years.

On jan 8th 2010 i encountered a spinal cord injury, that has parylized me from the mid waist down and am now wheel chair bound. My son called me from the drivers testing facility to tell me he got his licence and his words were "mom you dont have to worry anymore about who is goign to drive us i can drive us around now wherever you have to go. " he took his lawnmowing money to buy a lift for my chair so that i could come home sooner. I get to go home from the hospital today not only because of that but also because the 3rd day after being put in the hospital, he looked on line to get the specs for the ada requirements for wheelchair ramps and gathered up some friends and pulled a permit, built the ramp had it inspected and passed so i could come home.

You are all right i am very blessed with my children.
