Kindness Karma on a Nightshift at the Hospital

--by my_banana_world, posted May 17, 2010

I was working a nightshift at the hospital one day, and usually there are only four staff working during the night .  Fortunately, I was working with my mates that night -- all except one colleague who I didn't get along with mainly because he's always been EXTRA nice to me, which creeped me out.   A few days prior he had done something I didn't like and I had slapped him, which I later thought was a bit over the top, for me.

Anyways, I had decided that no matter what, I would do my best to be nice to him from now on. So this night, we all decided to have Subway sandwiches for dinner and I took down everyone's order to go and get it.  But, before I left I couldn't find that one colleague of mine, who I didn't get along with, to take his order.

When I got to Subway, I figured this was my chance to try and do something nice for him and I knew he always had a large appetite, so I ordered him a chicken terriyaki footlong sub! No one had told me exactly what fillings they wanted, so I just got them what I thought they might like.  The guy serving me figured out that most of the footlongs I was ordering weren't for me.

After he prepared the order, I asked him for 3 cookies, but I didn't get one for myself.  He said to me, "What's your favourite?" I said, "Don't worry, I'm not getting one for myself," and he said, "Yeah I know, but what's your favourite?" So I told him, thinking he was probably just curious!

I thanked him and walked to my car, and had a funny feeling that there must have been a reason he kept asking me what my favourite cookie was.  So I opened the bag and there were 4!  He had put in a cookie for me...my favourite!

As I drove back to work, I kept thinking, "Wow! I decided to get someone something, and in turn I got something that I hadn't expected!"

It was a small gesture, but made my night...

I guess it's true - as you sow, so you reap :)
