Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Benny and Marcus

Day 27:
I introduced myself to Benny today. He had a bike with an attachment that carried a lot of items. I asked him if he'd be interested in a burger and fries since his bike was alongside McDonald's. He was sincerely appreciative of the offer, and he accepted it.
"Hamburger or cheeseburger?"
"Cheeseburger, please.
"What kind of drink can I get for you?
"Coffee, please."
"Stay here," I told him. "I'll be back."
I placed his order and brought it to him, as he sat near his bike, which had a cool, retro feel to it.
He talked to me about his bike and how his dad was "Benjamin", but his mom didn't want him to be a "Jr." So, he's always been just "Benny."
I offered him a few Reeses cups I had left over from Easter. "I like those," he told me.
"So, do I," and it was time to go.

Driving across town, walking in the crosswalk at a stop light, I see Marcus, the fellow I gave brownies to who was playing his broken guitar.
"Marcus!" I yelled. "What are you doing all the way out here?!"
He looked surprised that someone knew his name. He recognized me and smiled and waved pushing his cart.
