Kindness Given And Received

Kindness Given and Received
My husband and I spent a few days in northern Ontario last week. We have rented a cabin from the same people for several years now. It is an interesting business as it is a convenience store, a liquor store, a take-out restaurant and the owners of the cottages. As I was paying my bill for the cottage the clerk asked the man behind me how things were going. He shared that things were improving but it had been a rough week. His wife had undergone heart surgery and had just been released from the hospital. I asked if I could give him a hug and he gladly accepted with tears in his eyes. Some may say that it was risky to hug a stranger and yet to me it simply felt right. My mother went through a similar surgery many years ago and I could relate to how he was feeling. A short time later my husband went to the same store to purchase a few bagels as we had forgotten ours at home. They didn’t have any but sold him four from their restaurant’s kitchen supplies. While this might happen in a larger city, I have not personally experienced it. I found that through giving and receiving kindness set the tone for the rest of my day, my heart is full.
