Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Playing A Supporting Role

--by Andicas, posted Mar 1, 2026
A very good friend lost her son after a long illness this week. I spent Friday supporting her through the viewing, the funeral and the cremation, just being by her side so she didn't feel alone in a crowd. Her daughter-in-law is also suffering of course, and there's a language and cultural barrier which my friend is feeling more keenly at this difficult time.
The kindness award of the day goes to my partner, who drove me there and back through horrible fog, chauffeured me around all day, and spent endless hours hanging about in the background.
