Stories of Kindness from Around the World

An Anonymous Lunch Gift to Show Appreciation

--by hereismatt, posted Aug 30, 2010

We go to eat at a buffet a couple times a month. Buffets (at least the ones we go to) are usually fairly inexpensive so the bill is always easy on the wallet. Whenever I go to a certain buffet, there are always soldiers from the Army base in our town.

I will search for a table of two or three, and let the cashier know I will be paying for the soldiers meal as well. But I always insist that the soldiers not know who paid for their bill.

It is an honor to buy these soldiers lunch, it is the least I can do for all they do for their country. And seeing the smiles it brings, letting them know they are apreciated, makes it more than worth the cost of thier meal...

When they found out about their bill being paid for they soldiers smiled, and the woman began to cry. She could be overheard in saying how no one ever says thank you to the soldiers, but this was more than they could have ever expected as a thanks...

A thousand thank yous to all of our soldiers, and their families who give up so much to support them during their service... May God Bless You and Your Families!

The server told him, and by the time I made it to the door, the soldier had come up and thanked us, with a tear in his eyes. He said he was down because he missed his family, but to know there are people out there who do appreciate the men in uniform makes his service worth the time away from his family. I did leave some SMILE cards on the table and gave one to the cashier. I hope that seeing how the soldier was moved, the servers in the restaurant will pass the smiles along... May God Bless ALL of the world's troops, in every corner of the world...
