A Blessing That Travels All The Way To New Zealand

I’m lucky enough to work for and with some very special people. Among them are the people at a Christian publishing company I write for. They’re in the States, I’m in the UK. Each time we complete a project they gift me with 25 author copies of whatever we have been working on.

When we finished a devotional book for men, I asked the company (and one special lady in the company) if they could find a better use for those copies instead of shipping them across the Atlantic.

I was delighted when she told me later that they had been given out at a shelter for men dealing with addiction problems. The thought that one of those verses I wrote about might make a difference to one of those lives was a powerful one.

Well, the last project was a calender. A perpetual calendar on the joys of fatherhood mixed in with some scriptural quotes. I couldn't imagine fatherhood calendars would be much use to anyone - but, hey, I made the offer and forgot about it.

This morning someone got in touch with the company asking permission to use an extract from an old book. They were from the Salvation Army (in New Zealand!) and were working with young men to try and get them to take the responsibilities (and delights) of fatherhood seriously.

My friend offered them the calendars. The Army officer jumped at the idea. She had a contact in the States the calendars could be sent to. She knew someone else who would pay for the shipping to New Zealand. Once there they would be distributed to young fathers as part of a program that would hopefully benefit them and their children.

As my friend says, "God is so amazing in His ability to take one small gift and bless so many people with it."

It's not exactly loaves and fishes, but ...

Never think your gift isn't worth giving. Put it out there in faith, then stand back and watch in amazement!
