Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Kindness for the Animals

--by SmileForever, posted Nov 9, 2010

I am one who loves to give to those in need. For instance, if I see a homeless person on the side of the road, I hand them $5. The way I think of it, it doesn't matter what they use it for as long as I showed that I care.

One subject that emotionally touched me was animal abuse – for instance, there are commercials that depict animals that were abused and neglected and had only a slight chance of living. I had to do something about it! So I contacted my local humane society and asked if I could have a fundraiser for them. They were openly grateful for my offer. Leading from this, I went around town and collected donations for a raffle to raise money for the abused animals of our local humane society.

To add to the appeal of this event, my dad wrote a song called "All God's Children Great and Small," which is about abused and neglected animals.  We sold the CD at our local fair and held the raffle. It was amazing to see how generous people were in helping us out. At the end of the day, we raised over $200!! It made me feel good that I was taking one step at a time to make a bit of difference in the lives of other creatures. Now these animals could more easily get the surgery they needed and the food they longed for. We donated the money and had a good feeling at the end of the day.

All I say to everyone is to help those in need. It doesn't need to be money – simply open your hand. Everyone has kindness within, and some people just need to find that part of their being. It's simply nice to know that there are good people in this world. Thank you for reading, and I welcome your comments. Thanks :)
