Stories of Kindness from Around the World

Sweeping Up Some Kindness

--by Humbled, posted Mar 25, 2011

I drove to a supermarket that is about 10 miles from my home. I was nervous about going too far from my house after the blizzard we had had because I hadn't cleaned the snow off the top of my car. The law is you MUST clean the snow or else you'll get a ticket for endangering other drivers with the falling snow and/or ice from you vehicle.

When I pulled into the parking lot, low and behold a broom was laying on top of 3 ft of snow! Wowww, I thought. There's that Karma !! I went in the store and hobbled to the isle I was looking for as fast as I could so not to miss the opportunity to clean my van.

As I was cleaning my van, a guy was gathering up shopping carts to put back in the front of the store. He was watching me the entire time. Not in a I should be afraid but like he was entranced by my cleaning... I don't know... Anyway, I finished up, got in the car and watched the guy push about 25 shopping carts to the front of the store. Now it was my turn to be amazed! I reached in my pocketbook and gathered as many dollars as I can (wasn't much... about 4 bucks) so he can at least get a hot cup of coffee or something. As I drove towards him, I called out to him and gave him the money... He had the most grateful and surprised smile!! I apologized that I couldn't give him more but it was my pleasure to do it and drove off.

With tears of joy in MY eyes I never thought how good it would feel to have someone watch me sweep away snow on top of my car and I give THEM money.
