Drive-Up Smiles

I received a package of new Smile cards and decided that I would focus on people who work in drive-up businesses.

My first act was at the drive-up window of my bank. It was a new person I had never seen before. I thought to myself, 'This is kind of hokey but I'll try it.' So, I put a Smile card underneath the check I was cashing. She counted out my money and then, with a big smile on her face, inquired about the card. We had a nice chat and I gave her some additional cards to pass on. That was how my day started.

The next day I had worked late and stopped by a fast food restaurant drive-up window to collect a salad. A clear voice over the intercom took my order and I put a Smile card underneath my payment. The young girl smiled and asked me about it. This was her first day at the drive-up window after working there for a month. I told her she had a very pleasant voice. We chatted a while and I found out she was a sophomore in high school and volunteered at Friendship Place where kids in the neighborhood could go for homework assistance and fellowship as a way to keep them out of trouble. It was a pleasant and fulfilling experience for me to end my day that way.

I told the girl that I would write about her in my Gratitude Journal. I think we both were blessed by the experience and I am hoping she will pass the Smile card on.

I am also sending Smile cards anonymously to people I know. The smile comes for me wondering what they are thinking when they open the envelope!

I find the excitement is in the anticipation but also in the response. We can never go wrong trying to brighten someone's day. I have no problems being silly in front of others but somehow this challenges me a little more. It's a fun project!

oldgirl wrote: Fantastic idea you have benji1422. If it brightens the day of the person you give the smilke card to as well as your own day, you are sharing your kindness. I am sure that many of those you give the cards to will pass the kindness on - either the card, a smile or a bounce in their step.

Congratulations benji1422
