Some time ago in my work I was helping a young man search for a job. After a while spent looking through the database of vacancies we found one that interested him. It wasn't a high paying job but he was very excited.
I could tell from the time we had spent talking that there were limitations in the kinds of work he could perform and that this job would be a big challenge for him.
He asked if he could bring his dad to my desk while we were searching the job listings and I told him that would be fine. We spent a while looking for jobs both he and his dad could apply for, then we went back to the one the young man had first become excited about. His dad wanted to apply for that one also.
The young man turned to his dad and said, "You see Dad, I told you there was hope!"
I may never know the whole story but I'm glad I got to play a small part in it. I learned long ago that we can't always do all we want to do to help others, but the least we can do is give people hope!
